THE WOODS
PAGE ONE-Four Panels
PANEL ONE:
We begin with an overhead shot of the side doors of a brick elementary school opening. The doors are made from metal and are windowless. Waves of seven years-olds come rushing, screaming, and cheering, with teachers standing to the side of each door.
W: They’ve Forgotten the fear…
PANEL TWO:
A long shot of the silhouetted playground with kids climbing and playing on a jungle gym, slide, and basketball court. To the right is a school building where the teachers stand, but to the left is a steep hill that leads to a dense forest.
W: They wrote stories about me, tales to scare away children.
W(continued): “Don’t go into the forest!” They would plead. “Don’t get lost!” They will scream
PANEL THREE:
Starting with a full shot, a small boy runs down the hill after a bright orange ball. The kid has short hair and wears a T-shirt with shorts.
Boy: I’ll get it!
Ball: BOUNCE!
PANEL FOUR:
The kid crouches down by the edge of the forest to pick up his ball, but something catches his attention, and his eyes look up.
W: Yet they still forgot…
PAGE TWO-Five Panels
PANEL ONE:
With a medium close-up shot from a looking downward perspective: The child’s face is now filled with dread as a giant shadow of a person with tendrils protruding from their body looms over him. The boy's hands shake as he holds the ball, as a tear runs down his left cheek.
W: But I haven’t.
PANEL TWO:
A long shot view peering through the playscape and focusing on the top of the hill.
PANEL THREE:
A close-up of another boy dressed in a hoody and shorts waiting anxiously for the other boy to come up. The final kids begin to filter back into the school as the teacher holding the door crosses her arms.
PANEL FOUR:
Keeping the same perspective, the boy enters the building with his head down as the teacher follows.
W: I always remember…
PANEL FIVE:
The doors close behind the two leaving the outside empty.
W: The Woods always remembers.
