Stop! It’s Time to Cook!

It’s Easy; Let Me Explain:

If you’re anything like me, cooking for yourself and others has always been met with a level of anxiety. But what if I told you you don’t have to be? You’ve probably heard from an aunt or uncle that “Cooking is easy! I can teach you!” and being the nice person you are, you say yes, only to be embarrassed that you don’t know the slightest thing when it comes to cooking. This is where I come in, a twenty-one college student, born and raised in the recent industry, here to share some wisdom on making great food at an affordable rate.

That’s Lunch!

The expression goes, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!” but with school, work, or maybe both, a nice lunch can go a long way when you need an energy boost. Though lunch is as vital as breakfast, most people like to skip it, chalking it up to having insufficient time to prepare anything . “When you have an internal dialogue that goes, ‘I don’t have time, I’ll do it later,’ that’s when you end up with people who are starving by 4 p.m., and their energy is completely drained,” says  Katia Verresen, an executive coach based in Sausalito, Calif, when interviewed by the Wallstreet Journal

Buy! Buy! Buy! In Bulk That is…

When shopping, there are TWO fundamental principles to keep in mind! First, never shop when hungry. The second is never to ship for one meal, shop for a weeks worth. “Buying in bulk is cost-effective, she said, and it forces her to cook more and spend less on restaurant food,” says The New York Times. Spending a lot in one go can be scary, but it is all worth it when saving in the long run. But the question you are probably having now is, “What do I buy?” Below is a list of supplies I make sure to pick up from my local grocery store for one of my signature meals.

Ramen- $2.16

Dozen eggs- $5.47

Rotisserie chicken- $8.47

Flour tortillas large- $19.99

Soy sauce 15 oz- $13.65

Mayonnaise- $4.88

Squeeze Sour Cream 14 oz- $2.82

Sriracha 17 oz- $11.99

TOTAL: $69.43

What To Make!

The question that everyone in the world has to ask themselves at one point is, “What to make for Lunch?” As we previously discussed, lunch must be quick and fast, so here's how. Now for the context, let’s say you’re home on a Sunday afternoon and start to feel hungry, but you don’t feel up to making anything too grand, so what do you make? A @esayeastingforyou “Lazy Burrito,” of course! With the ingredients listed above, you can make a quick, delicious, and rewarding meal in no more than 20 minutes. Take a look and watch a quick TikTok on how to make your own “Lazy Burrito.”
